Latest news: The United State Coast Guard has just given approval for a full river closing within a designated sailing area for the entire five hour event. This means no recreational power boats or commercial craft will be permitted within the event sailing area from the Fort Duquesne Bridge to the Carnegie Science Center . A channel for recreation power boats and the Gateway Clipper fleet will be maintained along the Point State Park shore of the Allegheny River .
This year marks the 250th celebration for the Pittsburgh region. You can be part of this celebration with a unique sailing event in the City of Pittsburgh .
The Point of Pittsburgh Sailing League, a new initiative to bring sailing to the City of Pittsburgh , is inviting area sailors with sailboats of all types and sizes for a one-day sailing event on June 29th with sailing from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Point of Pittsburgh. It’s simply your invitation to spend a day just sailing at the Point. River closures and safety procedures will keep things safe for sailors. Due to insurance and event permit requirements, participants will need to register for the event.
With your participation, The Point+Sailboats! could be the largest gathering of sailboats at the Point of Pittsburgh in the 250 year history of our region.
The final leg of the Tour of PA bicycle race in downtown Pittsburgh will also take place on June 29th. Local media and Versus Network are expected to cover the event. Who knows, images of sailing in Pittsburgh could find their way to local and national television audiences.
